Gudhjem Foraging Garden
The latest addition to Gudhjem Museum Park is the establishment of a foraging garden, which was officially opened in October 2025. In a few years, local residents and museum visitors will be able to pick nuts and other fruit here.
Food for Both People and Butterflies
For a long time, Gudhjem By- og Museumsforening had wanted to expand the Butterfly Meadow with new opportunities for visitors.
In 2025, a grant from BEOF’s “God energi” fund made it possible to establish a small area with hazelnut, walnut and sweet chestnut trees. A number of fruit trees, including apple, pear and cherry, were also planted. In a few years, local residents will be able to forage for nuts and fruit in the area.
In addition, host plants for butterflies have been planted as a natural screen towards the main road. This will support the meadow as a breeding habitat for butterflies and benefit the ecosystem of the area.
After a few years, we expect to have a beautiful, sustainable oasis where people and butterflies can thrive side by side!
On 13 October 2025, there was a festive official opening, where the museum celebrated the establishment of the foraging garden, the placement of sculptures in the area and the habitat for wild nature.
