ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

What happens when objects from the past meet contemporary craft?

The exhibition takes its starting point in the collection of Gudhjem Museum. Each object contains traces of its time – of its function, materials, craftsmanship and the people who used or made it. Although they belong to the past, they remain active as carriers of knowledge and experience.

A selection of members of the Arts & Crafts Association Bornholm have worked with these objects as starting points for new works. They have explored forms, techniques and stories, allowing themselves to be inspired to create something new. The result is not copies, but interpretations in which expressions from the past re-emerge in a contemporary context.

The concept of resonance can be used to describe this connection. Just as one tone can set another into vibration, an object from the past can create movement in the present. A dialogue arises in which the old and the new influence one another.

Resonance emerges through encounters – between times, materials and people.

The exhibition has received support from Bornholms Brand.

PARTICIPATING CRAFT ARTISTS

24 craft artists are taking part in the exhibition. Ceramicists and artists working with glass, textiles and jewellery have gone on a “treasure hunt” and each selected an object from the museum collection to inspire and reinterpret.

Opening reception with free admission on Saturday 29 August, 2–4 pm.

The exhibition is open Thursday–Sunday, 11 am–4 pm, through 18 October 2026.

The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with ACAB and is part of Bornholm’s Craft and Culture Weeks 2026.

As part of Craft Weeks, a special event with a guided tour and conversation will take place on 6 September at 4 pm.
This event is reserved for guests with a Culture Weeks wristband.

Price: Regular museum admission.
