Vision

We want Gudhjem and Melsted to preserve their distinctive historical and cultural character while, within this framework, developing solutions and proposals for the challenges we face now and in the future.
Living conditions for residents of Gudhjem and Melsted should be attractive.
Visitors should experience an area that places a high value on the overall environment – for the benefit of everyone who moves through it.

To have a vibrant town all year round.
To give priority to pedestrians in Gudhjem through minimal traffic.
To protect and preserve cultural and historical values, including the picturesque houses, street layouts and archipelago harbours.
To communicate the history and distinctive character of the town.
To support initiatives that underpin the vision.
To present ideas and proposals and discuss them with members of the association and the public.
To put forward proposals to the relevant authorities and organisations.
To safeguard the interests of the area in relation to administrations and politicians.
To cooperate with other associations in the town and with town associations elsewhere on Bornholm where relevant.

• To work for the preservation of buildings and the urban environment in Gudhjem-Melsted and of the area’s natural environment,
to act as a citizens’ association for Gudhjem-Melsted, and
to work for the benefit of the town.

To fulfil the mandate we have as elected representatives of the Gudhjem By- og Museumsforening by adhering to the values set out in the association’s statutes.
